    Komputermusik without Komputer

    deutsch

Live electronics "Not too much light" (2000, UA)

Live electronics for 10 dollar-device, DJ mixer, the first truly magnetic Turntable, and small devices.

Presenteded at the Festival of MGNM at Echzeithalle 23.9.2000 at Einstein, Munich

The piece is part of my long-term project KOMPUTERMUSIK WITHOUT KOMPUTER.
A precursor is VINTAGE ALGORITHMS, (UA 1995).

The pre-electronic Komputer then consisted of coupled Wagnerian hammers for traditional electrical doorbells.

The NICHT ZUVIEL LICHT/NOT TOO MUCH LIGHT project is now a double alternative to "vintage". The starting point are cyclical mechanical gyrations of older sound reproducers (record player) which are available for the rhythmic aspects of the work.

Not using any records the reproducing machine finally turns into a ”game device“.
(Compared with CDs -. There the surface is at best evaluated.)

While the rhythmic pulses are magnetic, obtained by light and microphonics, the essential tonal ranges are controlled by light and shadow.

Rhythm, sample, loops, records or rhythm machines are not used in the process.

The 10-$-Device is an extremely light-sensitive tone generator on the basis of high-frequency difference tones and stands in the tradition of analog "small electronics ".

As a listener I'm influenced by the effort taken for generating music (economy in any / no respect) in perception and judgment.

That given I constructed an instrument with a maximum of 10 $ material costs for the ICMC1999 in Peking (rejected).

The title of the piece refers to the specific arrangements (DC light sources), needed to avoid disturbances of the 10-$-DEVICE.

    Musical-Automats (Barrels)

The fascination with the mechanical "acoustic" sound generator joint to the access to the "unplayable" led me to the recording of Disklavier and the construction of the "Violinautomat - Work in Progress", presented at Deutsches Museum Munich.
